5 PURPOSE Live It or Leave It?

PURPOSE
Live It or Leave It?

INTRODUCTION
“Why am I here?” is one of the often asked questions by people who seek answers to the purpose of their lives. Purpose, basically defined as the intention why something is done, is a very powerful motivation. It has been observed that a common factor which successful people have is that they have a strong sense of purpose. While we can see this to be true in the secular world, it is even more so for Christians.

MAN’S SUPREME PURPOSE
If we would like to know the purpose for our lives, we must begin with God. The Bible reveals the purpose why God created man.

ISAIAH 43:7
...every0ne who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.

Man's ultimate purpose for his existence is to glorify God. And it is rightly expected for those who are in Christ to live their lives in accordance to this purpose.

FOR GOD'S GLORY
When we speak of the glory of God in the Bible, we mean His worthiness. To glorify Him is to declare His great worthiness.

1 CORINTHIANS 10:31
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.

In every thought we think, in every word we say, and in every deed we do we are to show how glorious our God is. At all times and everywhere, our lives ought to reveal how awesome and amazing He really is.

OUR LIFE MISSION
Glorifying God has a lot to do with our obedience to His will. We see in the New Testament that Jesus’ completion of His mission brought glory to God the Father.

JOHN 17:4
l have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. In the same way, Jesus’ disciples have a mission to do.
In doing this mission, they bring glory to God. The question is what this mission is all about.

THE GREAT COMMISSION
What God wants us to do as His disciples is seen in the Great Commission. This was the assignment Jesus left His church to do before He went back to Heaven.
MATTHEW 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Making disciples is what Jesus expects us to be doing until His return. A disciple at its basic definition is a learner-follower of Christ. Here we find that being His disciples, we are to be disciple makers as well.
In other words, our assignment is to help others follow Jesus as we ourselves are following Him. It is about showing them through our teaching and example how to live for His glory.
Jesus wanted His church to do this globally. This may seem to be a task bigger than we can handle and indeed, it is. But along with this assignment is the promise of His empowering presence to make sure that we can surely do as commissioned.

CONCLUSION
Only in living for God's glory can we have real satisfaction. On the other hand, when we pursue anything other than giving Him glory, our lives  become wasted. The most foolish thing to do is to waste our life by not glorifying the Lord. Our purpose is very important. Live it and you will find fulfillment in life.
Leave it and you will find life empty. Let's glorify
God and make disciples!
